Giving birth in Singapore can be very different to giving birth in other developed countries – here, maternity care is Doctor led and you are unlikely to receive continuity of care from a midwife. During labour you will be assigned a nurse that you would have likely never met before, they will check on you at regular intervals throughout your labour, meaning you and your partner are left alone for the majority of the time, and your doctor will only come in just before baby is born or if there are any complications.
Numerous studies have shown that women who received continuous support throughout labour from a doula or midwife are far more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth, they are less likely to have an epidural, be augmented, have an instrumental delivery or a caesarean section. Women along with their partners also report having a more positive birth experience with the presence of a doula.
Our Beloved Bumps’ Doula Team includes Natasha, Van and Charlotte – all are certified Birth Doulas with Childbirth International and Natasha and Charlotte are experienced Midwives as well that have supported countless couples during labour, birth and the postnatal period. Their midwifery training and experience has given them a deep understanding of the labour and birth process, along with pain relief options and medical intervention. With this knowledge and experience, they are able to provide exceptional doula support that is unbiased and evidence based. Our doula Van has supported numerous couples on their journey to parenthood, and she also leads our prenatal classes in Tampines and Bukit Batok – she has been trained by the Beloved Bumps midwives and works closely with them.
After you book your doula package, our team will contact you to set up your first prenatal appointment!
Every pregnancy, birth and baby is different, as well as every couple that our midwives meet, so we tailor our support to your individual needs. Our midwives come with a ‘doula kit’ full of things that, from our experience, will help you to achieve a positive birth experience.
Doulas not only support the women, they also support the birth partner. It can be very hard to see your loved one in pain, and some partners are just as anxious, if not more than the women, and feel that they also need the support of someone who understands the environment and the language used in birth settings. The doula’s role is not to replace the dad/partner, but to help them find the best way to support their loved one during the labour and birth.
Founded in London in 2012, Beloved Bumps has opened in Singapore to provide women with Pre and Postnatal classes that are interactive, unbiased and sociable.
