Couples practising labour positions on birth balls at the Beloved Bumps Active Birth Workshop

Add-on workshop · 3 hrs · from 32 weeks

Stop reading about labour.
Practise it.

The Active Birth Workshop is a guided, hands-on experience designed for couples who want to feel what labour feels like, not just understand it. Predominantly practical. Partners essential.

Predominantly practical
Partners essential
From 32 weeks
Minimal theory
Add-on workshop — best taken alongside or after an antenatal course.

You don't need to have completed a course to attend, but we highly recommend it. The workshop builds on the theory you learn in our antenatal classes — the more you already know, the more you'll get out of it.

Three hours of doing,
not listening.

Most antenatal courses teach you what to expect during labour. This workshop gives you the chance to practise it — to feel positions in your body, build muscle memory, and develop the physical partnership you'll rely on in the room.

You'll move through birth positions, breathing sequences, rebozo and counter-pressure, and a guided simulation of early, active, and transition labour. By the end, your body knows what to do — not just your head.

Recommended from 32 weeks.

Who it's for

Most valuable for those who already have the theory and want the physical experience to go with it.

Course graduates

You've done the theory — now you want to feel it. This is the natural next step after our antenatal course.

Online course completers

You've done your research independently and want the hands-on practice that online education can't give you.

Low-intervention planners

You're aiming for an unmedicated or minimal intervention birth and want practical tools to manage labour.

Partners who want a role

You'll leave knowing exactly what to do with your hands, your voice, and your body — in every stage of labour.

VBAC preparation

Planning a vaginal birth after caesarean? The workshop helps rebuild physical and psychological confidence for labour.

Second-time parents

You know the theory already. Come to refresh your body's memory and focus on what you'd do differently this time.

Haven't done a course yet? No problem — but we highly recommend pairing this with one of our antenatal courses. The workshop is significantly more powerful when you already have the theory. Talk to us if you'd like help planning both.

What happens in 3 hours

0120 min
Opening — where are you, and what do you want from today?

Brief check-in, intentions for the session, and a quick orientation to the space. No theory recap — we assume you've done your homework.

0225 min
Spinning Babies & optimal positioning

Parental self-care sequence, baby positioning awareness, and techniques to encourage optimal fetal position in the weeks before birth.

0325 min
Rebozo workshop

Partners learn three rebozo techniques — sifting, jiggling, side-lying support. Every couple practises on each other.

0415 min
Breathing sequence

Diaphragmatic breathing → J-breath → birth breath. Practised in sequence with partners cueing the transitions. This is the toolkit you'll use from the first contraction.

0530 min
Labour position circuit

Five labour positions with full partner support at each station — standing lean, hands-and-knees, birth ball, side-lying, supported squat. You move through each one and find what feels right in your body.

0630 min
Guided labour simulation

The centrepiece of the workshop. Your facilitator guides you through early, active, and transition labour in real time — you breathe through it, move through it, and use every tool you've learned. Partners get clear direction at every stage.

0715 min
Birth ball work

Figure-of-8, pelvic circles, forward lean — and how to use the birth ball from early labour through transition. Simple, practical, and one of the most effective tools available.

Common questions

Do I need to have done a course first?
Not required, but highly recommended. The workshop is predominantly practical — the more birth knowledge you bring, the more you'll get out of it. If you haven't done a course yet, consider booking one alongside or before attending. We're happy to help you work out the right combination.
Does my partner need to come?
Yes — this is a partner-essential workshop. Every activity is designed for two people. Your partner will learn practical skills — rebozo, counter-pressure, breathing cues, positional support — that they will use throughout your labour. The workshop is not useful without them.
When should I attend?
We recommend from 32 weeks. At this stage your body is genuinely preparing for birth and the experience is more grounded. Many couples attend at 34–36 weeks when birth feels imminent enough that the practice lands differently.
Is this only for those planning an unmedicated birth?
No — but it's most valuable for those hoping to minimise intervention or go unmedicated. The tools you'll learn (positions, breathing, rebozo, partner support) are useful regardless of how your birth unfolds. Many families use them in early labour before getting an epidural.
What should we wear?
Comfortable, loose clothing or activewear — you'll be on the floor, on a birth ball, and moving through positions. Layers work well as the room can get warm during the simulation.
What's included in the S$260?
3-hour workshop for two · Active Birth Workbook including acupressure guide for labour and birth · active birth position reference card. If you've booked a Beloved Bumps antenatal course, your S$50 discount code will have been sent in your course confirmation email.
