What makes an IBCLC
different?

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant is the highest qualification in feeding support — more rigorous than a breastfeeding counsellor, a peer supporter, or a general nursing qualification. Not all lactation supporters hold this credential. Laura does.

Laura, IBCLC at Beloved Bumps

Laura

Midwife · IBCLC · Lactation Consultant

UK trained and registered, Laura has over a decade of maternal health experience across low-risk birth centres, high-risk delivery suites, and community postnatal teams in the NHS. She is Beloved Bumps' resident IBCLC — which means she brings both midwifery clinical knowledge and specialist feeding expertise to every consultation.

Laura sees feeding support as a relationship, not a single appointment. She takes the time to understand your situation, your goals, and what's actually happening — not just what's visible on the surface.

Registered Midwife IBCLC NHS trained 10+ years experience
"There's no such thing as a feeding question that's too small or too obvious. If it's on your mind, it matters — and it's exactly why I'm here."

Common questions

How is an IBCLC different from other feeding support?
An IBCLC is the highest lactation qualification — requiring 1,000+ clinical hours and an international board exam. Not all lactation supporters hold this credential. Laura does, which means she can assess and manage complex feeding situations that general nursing support may not be equipped for.
How long is a home visit?
90 minutes. Significantly more time than a typical clinic appointment — enough for a full assessment, hands-on support, and a proper conversation. If you need more, a follow-up can be arranged within 24–48 hours.
How many visits will I need?
One visit often resolves a straightforward concern. For more complex issues — tongue tie, low supply, a premature or sleepy baby — the 3-pack gives you the continuity to work through it with the same IBCLC across multiple visits.
I'm not planning to breastfeed. Is this still relevant?
Yes. Laura supports all feeding choices — formula, bottle, mixed feeding. If you want guidance on paced bottle feeding, an expressing plan, or help transitioning away from breastfeeding, she can help with all of it.
Can I claim on insurance?
Some international health policies cover IBCLC consultations under Maternity or Baby Health Cover. We provide a detailed invoice for your insurer on request.
